We can’t say that the weather was the most pleasant to kick off Outside Lands Music Festival this year, but while we lacked sunshine for most of the day we were treated to some amazing acts on the stage.
High energy sets on the Lands End stage by Run the Jewels, Holy Ghost!, Chromeo and Disclosure prepped the stage for the main attraction, Yeezus, AKA Kanye West. We also saw amazing sets from Phosphorescent and The Tedeschi Trucks Band on the Sutro Stage. Susan Tedeschi’s voice, WOW, just wow.
For me personally, Chromeo’s set stole the show. The Canadian electronic duo killed it with hits like “Bonafied Lovin” and “Jealous (I Ain’t With It).” The songs are a little like being in an alternate reality where the electronic music of the late 80s and early 90s dominated the world.
Having seen many marquee OSL headliners in the past, I would call Kanye’s set rather bland and subdued. That being said, the man is unbelievably talented and his set list already plays like a greatest hits album.
It is always incredible to see the sea of humanity that fills the Polo Field for the main acts, bringing odd and interesting flags and posters to hold up. This year BloomThat is selling really awesome flower crowns, made from fresh Baby’s Breath that many concert goers were wearing, you can find them along with some other great local shops near the windmills on the polo field.
Day one was incredible, and we can’t wait to see whats next. Check out more photos from Fabian below.
