Seattle’s Iska Dhaaf Buzzing Down the Coast

We just got a PR about Iska Dhaaf, a new buzz band from Seattle, who are headlining a free show at Neck of the Woods next Friday, June 20th. I’d never heard of them, but based on the “Live at KEXP” clips they sent over, I’m excited to check them out.

My first thoughts, listening to “Everybody Knows” were of The Gun Club, that old punk-blues band from LA with the driving, insistent, and emotive vocals and rhythms, but layered in are these almost Dick Dale-like surf guitar sounds with crazy reverb and distortion. It makes this oddly dark pop that I’m digging.

Adding to this, apparently their new/debut album, Even The Sun Will Burn, includes Sufi poetry-inspired lyrics. Who wouldn’t love mystic-pop-punk-surf? My hopes are high.

The Neck of the Woods show next Friday is the first stop of their national tour promoting the new album. Did I mention it’s a free show? Other tour dates are here.
