Listen to A-Trak – Landline (feat. GTA)

12/06/2012

One of the new A-trak releases exhibits two very welcome traits: genre boundary-blurring and the clever use of a Woody the Woodpecker laugh sample. “Landline” is a gratifying collaboration with the young GTA and features the Canadian’s sophisticated turntable talents at a catchy 140 beats per minute trap house beat. The heavy bass oscillates atop subtle electric piano riffs and disco rhythms with high energy that never lets up but never feels overwhelming.

This funky song is from his newly released four track dance EP Tuna Melt from Fool’s Gold Records and can be streamed in full below. The hit producer who began his career at age 14 playing in local Montreal clubs admitted his motivations for his recent work on air to BBC Radio’s Annie Mac, “I wanted to put four things together that reflect my different tastes.” The industrial techno track with Galantis and the electro/disco song with Oliver both have styles that contrast considerably. Those that appreciate his style can look forward to a new album from Duck Sauce, the performance moniker for his creations with fellow musician Armand van Helden.
