Flying Lotus’ new album Until the Quiet Comes is scheduled for release at the beginning of October. Yesterday, Flying Lotus released the official video for “Putty Boy Strut.” Clearly, the George Orwellian music video of robot is a metaphor for our capitalist system from a Leninist perspective. (I’m just fucking with you–or am I?) “Putty Boy Strut” finds Fly Lo at his best, using a freestyle composition as verses (think Cosmogramma) with a structured hook featuring a catchy marching clap and ominous muffled synth-like sample tying the song structure together.
As an added bonus, listen to another single from the album, ”See Thru To U” featuring Erykah Badu. The improvised jazz features loose hi hats and Badu going Free Willy with her vocals.
Badu’s track is wonderful… but the first track is a head bobbin’ venture, and an HD big screen made that the highlight of my video viewing week. Cheers and thanks for that… I would have missed it.
