It’s that time of summer where the festival circuit comes to our very own back yard. Are you prepared? Are you ready to get step into Golden Gate Park and partake in all the music, food, dust, and lust that San Francisco’s Outside Lands has to offer? Whether you’re ready or not, it’s here. Today marks the start of the 5th year of the music and arts festival in the city by the bay. The people at the festival have been hard at work trying to bring you another memorable year.
This is the first year in which Outside Lands is SOLD OUT. Yes, everything. So it’s right to assume you’ll be rubbing shoulders with some good people this weekend…or at least I hope it’s good people. Now there’s no need to bring your riot gear or anything, but be prepared for people in mass amounts. You might be trying to squeeze your way to the front of Jack White’s set, or arguing with someone over the last cupcake of the day from Kara’s Cupcakes, but please remember to be courteous, polite, and friendly. I bet if everyone had a hit of some good ol’ northern cali cheech and chong, we might all be a bit friendlier this weekend (or at least clear out all of the food vendors in the park). So, if you are on cloud 9 or not, it’s going to be packed. Plan accordingly.
As far as musical acts go, there is such a wide range of music that even my iPhone isn’t use to the shuffle. If you’re a young whippersnapper trying to catch some fresh new bands check out Justice, Passion Pit, The Walkmen, and Skrillex to name a few. If your a bit older, or a well versed whippersnapper, then you’ll get a chance to catch the sounds of Stevie Wonder, Metallica, Neil Young, Foo Fighters, and Norah Jones. As always, there’s something for everyone. Even if you are a fan of improv or stand up, the comedy tent may just be your oasis.
Yep, grab your cardigans, boat shoes, ray bans, medical marijuana, cash for the munchies, sunblock, and and your friends and come out to the park. It’s sure to be another great San Francisco tradition.
