Nina Simone will always be one of our favorite singers. “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” is a chilling song lush with her emotive vocals. Her deep, almost baritone vocals are commanding like a boisterous drunkard, but calm like a mother’s lullaby.

The single has been sampled countless times, but one of my favorites was Kanye’s rendition for Common’s track “Misunderstood.”
