Ruby Skye landed the Swedish house sensation Avicii for two packed nights this past weekend. Hundreds of San Franciscans weren’t about to let a week of work stop them from catching this rising talent, who’s set was predicted to run well past 3am Sunday night and Monday definitely kept pace.
On Monday’s show the DJ duo Cazzettes opened the night, but a little after midnight when Avicii stepped up and took over the decks the club transformed. The first notes of the blasting bass he laid down reminded me of a cascade of trumpets proceeding a dignitary or royalty. No doubting it, this 22 year old Swede knew the crowd was here for him.
The producer/DJ swept through his tunes exhibiting a range of tunes and mastery of the club that barely gave the crowd a moment of breath. To get a taste, here is a link to a July 2010 Sensation set. [Download Avicii: July 2010 Sensation Set]
Breaking into the scene at 18, signing with At Night Management in 2008, Avicii has already collaborated with some of the biggest names in the house game: Tiësto, Axwell, David Guetta, just to name a few. Keep an eye out folks–this kid just landed a collaboration credit on Leona Lewis’s single “Collide” and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him move more into the mainstream soon.
