Girl Talk headlines the Fox Theater in Oakland Friday March 18th, promoting his new album, All Day. The album was available for free to download at Illegal Art (click here). Girl Talk’s shows are famous as hot dance party, during which Girl Talk, born Greg Gillis, strips his clothes welcoming the audience to do the same.
Interestingly enough, the controversy regarding Girl Talk’s sampling seem to be circumvented by a number of changes which include (notice carefully at the Illegal Art website) a note stating “All Day is intended to be listened to as a whole. It is broken up into individual tracks only for easier navigation,” and a Creative Common Attribution-NonCommercial license. The fact that Girl Talk’s performance at the Fox Theater is sold-out, suggests that sharing music for free might not be so bad after all for one’s career. In other news, Sean Parker, founder of Napster, is joining on to Spotify, to finish what he started with Napster, because “the war on piracy is a failure.” Like I said–sharing music for free might not be so bad after all for one’s career.
