Arcade Fire teamed up with veteran music video director Chris Milk–he of Kanye’s “Jesus Walks” and “Touch the Sky” fame–to make a super cool and very moving interactive music video experience for “We Used to Wait”, one of the best songs off of The Suburbs. I don’t want to spoil it, because it truly is innovative but they manage to use Google Earth in a cool way that doesn’t necessarily require one to be stoned. It appropriately follows in the footsteps of Maniac Magee, The Outsiders and all those other cultural byproducts of alienated youth and fits right in with the underlying trope of The Suburbs. As a treat, since I can’t embed “The Wilderness Downtown” for reasons that will be obvious once you’ve seen it, here is the “Rebellion (Lies)” video from their first album.
